Travis Alabanza

Travis Alabanza is a writer, performer and theatre-maker. Since 2014 they have been blending their unique mixture of poetry, performance, fashion and politics to establish themselves as one of the most prominent trans artistic voices within the UK (as noted by Gay Times, Dazed and MOBO). A regular performer at the RVT, Duckie and Bar Wotever, they were Artist-in-Residence at the Tate in 2016/17 and starred in Scottee’s Putting Words in Your Mouth at the Roundhouse in 2017. Their writing has appeared in The Guardian, Huck Magazine, Dazed, BBC, Independent and Gay Times and in 2017 they self-published their poetry book Before I Step Outside (you love me). In 2017/18 Alabanza played the lead in the stage adaptation of Derek Jarman’s Jubilee (Royal Exchange Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith) with a performance that was described by Lyn Gardner as ‘mesmerising.’
