Pier Paolo Pasolini

The fame and notoriety of Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) as poet, film maker, intellectual, essayist, novelist and short story teller is undiminished. Affabulazione (presented here as Fabrication), a play written in free verse, perhaps the best known of them, was published in its earliest version in 1966. In 1975, the year of Pasolini's murder, it was first performed in Turin by a group of young actors, and then two years later in Rome's Teatro Tenda, directed by Vittorio Gassman who also played the main part. His six works for the theatre, however, have been largely overlooked, even in Italy.
